FRIP stands for Fraction of Reads In Peak. It is a ratio of those reads that map in the peak of interest over the total reads. Since most reads do not fall into peaks, this ratio is low. While FRIP scores in the ENCODE data tend to range between 0.2 to 0.5, a minimum FRIP score of 0.3 is suggested.
